Main Duties and Responsibilities Teaching and Learning:

  • Establish a purposeful learning environment where children and young people feel secure and
  • confident; where diversity is valued; where there are opportunities to maximise teaching and learning
  • Engage pupils to be active in their learning, stimulating pupils’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources that meet the individual learning needs of pupils
  • Plan for, set and deliver appropriately challenging sequences of work that have clear structure and objectives for whole class, groups or individuals that:
    • Consider the inclusion and diversity agenda
    • Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies
    • Mark and assess pupils' work, using the school’s monitoring and assessment policies against the learning objectives/outcomes
    • Reflect and evaluate on own teaching.


  • Build and maintain good working relationships with staff, pupils, parents/carers and the wider community of the school
  • Set high expectations for pupils' behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships
  • Be responsible wellbeing of children by following and being committed to school policy relating to behaviour management, safeguarding and health and safety
  • Safeguarding pupils by maintaining confidentiality and the highest standards of professionalism in accordance with school policies.
  • Keep records of pupil behaviour, according to the school’s relevant policies
  • Participate in the staff supervisory duties in accordance with staff duty rotas
  • Communicate readily and openly with parents to support the ‘open door’ approach at Oakwood

Fulfil other reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher
