Council cracks down on underage alcohol sales in Sussex

It comes after several local shops were caught selling alcohol to minors.

West Sussex County Council are cracking down on the sale of age-restricted products, warning businesses of the severe consequences they could face.

It comes after a number of shops across Sussex have had their licenses revoked due to the sale of alcohol to underage customers.

These include shops in Worthing, Littlehampton, Storrington, Selsey, and Horsham.

Trading standards warned businesses that those who break the law could face licence suspensions or removal, as well as the possibility of criminal prosecution.

West Sussex Trading Standards Team Manager said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to the sale of alcohol to children and where we have sufficient evidence to show this has taken place, we will seek a review of the business’s alcohol licence.”

The council is urging members of the public who have any information about the sale of products to underage children to call Citizens Advice.
