Strikes to hit West Sussex in October

Further disruption is expected across trains in our area as new strike action is announced for October

Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) are the latest transport union to announce action with both the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) and ASLEF already committing to disruption on 1st and 5th October.

It means that Southern, Gatwick Express and other services across West Sussex are likely to be cancelled or running to a reduced timetable.

The dispute is between rail operators, network rail and the trade unions over pay, conditions and the proposed changes to structures (like guaranteed weekend leave). It has caused a number of days of disruption across the network.

The action for October also coincides with planned industrial action from Communication Workers' Union (CWU) members at Royal Mail which will see thousands of postal staff walk out over pay.

Southern Railway say they will be updating journey planners on Tuesday with travel to be avoided on the day of action unless absolutely necessary.
