West Sussex County Council have set up sessions to educate people about the dangers of online fraud. This comes after staggering figures revealing the issue of scamming in the area.
Research by West Sussex County Council has revealed that residents have lost just over £3.5 million to scammers in just the first half of this year.
The council’s Digital Safety Team has set up a series of webinars and in-person sessions with the aim of educating people on the dangers of internet fraud and how to avoid falling victim.
It was also discovered that the majority of victims were aged 60 or over, with just under half of reports coming from people who live alone.
The free sessions will cover how to spot online scams and what to do if someone was to fall victim, as well as how fraudsters can also strike through phone calls and in-person. They’re being held online and in Bognor Regis, Horsham and East Grinstead in both June and August.
