Passengers travelling through London Gatwick are being warned that some flights could face delays because of a technical problem affecting the UK’s air traffic control system.
Gatwick Airport says it is continuing to operate normally today, but a small number of services could be affected by the issue at NATS’ control centre in Prestwick, Scotland.
A London Gatwick spokesperson said: “London Gatwick is operating as normal today, although a small number of flights may face delays due to an ongoing technical issue at NATS' Prestwick centre in Scotland. Passengers should contact their airline for the latest updates.”
NATS, which manages much of the UK’s air traffic control system, says engineers are investigating the problem.
Air traffic restrictions have been introduced to manage the number of aircraft using the system while the fault is investigated.
A NATS spokesperson said: “We are investigating a technical issue at our Prestwick centre in Scotland.
“To maintain safety, air traffic regulations have been applied to manage traffic demand.
“Engineers are on site investigating and working to resolve the issue. The issue is unrelated to the technical problems experienced earlier this month.
“We apologise for the disruption and any delays to passengers’ journeys. Passengers should check with their airline for the latest information on their flight.”
Delays have also been reported at other UK airports, including Manchester.
Passengers due to travel from Gatwick are being advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information before travelling.
