The cost of living crisis is continuing to hit households in Bognor, with the town’s food bank warning that many families are now just one unexpected event away from needing emergency support.
Rising prices, coupled with insecure wages and higher housing costs, mean that most of us are only one catastrophe away from relying on services like these. A sudden job loss, illness or even a broken boiler, could tip households into crisis.
Demand for food banks across the country has been increasing sharply over the past two years, and Bognor is no exception.
Bognor Food Bank has recently moved into its new home at the Hope Centre. The move gives the charity a purpose-built stock room for donations, ensuring food can be stored and distributed more efficiently. Alongside this, the site includes a lounge area and even a small coffee bar – designed to provide a welcoming space where people can find support, advice and community as well as food parcels.
Staff say the new facilities will allow them not only to meet demand but also to work more closely with partner organisations, offering additional help with debt advice, benefits and housing.
While the Hope Centre marks a positive step forward, the main issue remains the rising cost of essentials. Many residents, continue to face the difficult choice between heating and eating.
If you can help Bognor Food Bank by donating food or your own time then do get in touch with them.
