LATEST: Fire in Bognor

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have been called to a fire at an industrial building in Bognor.

The blaze broke out shortly before 6am at a scrap yard in Ockley Road.

The Fire Service says, “At the height of the incident, there were eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform at the scene.”

People are advised to avoid the area, as road closures are in place on Argyle Road and Ockley Road.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called at 6am this morning to a fire at an industrial building in Ockley Road, Bognor Regis.

“At the height of the incident there were eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform at the scene.

“Crews worked hard to bring the fire in a scrap yard under control using jets and foam.

“Our attendance has been scaled down and we currently have three fire engines at the scene.

“People are being advised to avoid the area due to road closures in place in Ockley Road and Argyle Road.”

Update: West Sussex Fire and Rescue has told us that the fire was started by accidental ignition, and they have now left the scene.
