A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a wide-load vehicle caused major disruption on the A27 in Polegate.
The incident happened just before 9am on Tuesday morning (30 September) when a lorry carrying a static home became stuck near Gainsborough Lane. The size of the load meant one carriageway of the busy A27 was completely blocked, bringing traffic to a standstill during the morning rush hour.
Motorists reported being caught in long tailbacks, with delays lasting for hours while police and recovery teams worked to deal with the obstruction.
The 44-year-old driver, who is from Lincolnshire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
Sussex Police have appealed for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward as part of their ongoing investigation.
