New A284 Lyminster Bypass will open in May

After months of delays and anticipation, the long-awaited A284 Lyminster Bypass is finally set to open next month, bringing welcome news for motorists in West Sussex.

The northern stretch of the bypass, a key infrastructure project with a price tag of £50 million, will officially open on Friday, 9th May at 2 pm.

Originally scheduled for completion in Autumn last year, the project has faced multiple setbacks, with poor weather significantly hampering progress. However, local officials now confirm that the finishing touches are nearly complete, paving the way for a spring opening.

The new road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve journey times for drivers traveling to and from Littlehampton and Bognor via the A27. But it’s not just motorists who stand to benefit — the bypass has also been designed with the wider community in mind.

West Sussex County Council says the project aims to offer “better and safer” access to Littlehampton for pedestrians and cyclists, marking an important step in the county's push for more sustainable travel options.

With the opening date now in sight, residents and commuters alike are counting down the days to a smoother and safer journey through the region.
