New Red Panda spotted on the Isle of Wight

Flint the Red Panda

Amazon World Zoo Park on the Isle of Wight has a new addition.

A red panda named Flint has arrived in his new enclosure from Belfast Zoo.

This transfer was part of an international breeding programme. The studbook for Red Pandas is managed by a Studbook Keeper, Janno Weerman at Rotterdam Zoo.

The studbook keeper manages the captive population of Red Pandas to make sure that breeding is controlled and genetic diversity is maintained. We currently hold a 10year old female called Xioa-xing.

The zoo is hopeful that next year the pair will breed. Amazon World Zoo Park is located on the Isle of Wight. It opened in 1993 and is owned by Derek and Sandra Curtis.
