One passerby grabbed a metal road sign to aid the trapped occupant, while a quick-thinking gas engineer working nearby kicked down the door to get him out.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene, with five fire engines dispatched to tackle the blaze at its peak. Crews worked to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties.
The South East Coast Ambulance Service reported that one person was taken to Worthing Hospital for further medical treatment.
