Work to redevelop the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis is continuing to move forward, with steady progress being made on the landmark project.
Arun District Council says construction teams are currently focusing on roofing, structural steelwork and internal layout changes as the building moves closer to becoming fully weather-tight.
The project forms a key part of the council’s wider Regis Rejuvenation programme, which aims to revitalise Bognor Regis town centre and boost cultural and community facilities.
During early March, contractors are continuing work on the auditorium’s structural steel framework. This includes the final installations and alterations to the lighting bridge inside the theatre.
Roofing work is also progressing on the upper levels of the new extension, where flat roofing is being installed. At the same time, preparation work on the existing theatre roof is continuing as part of a built-up system ahead of the installation of a new aluminium roof covering.
Inside the building, scaffolding within the auditorium is being adjusted to support ongoing structural and roofing work.
Construction of the flat roofing structure for the theatre’s fly tower is also set to begin in the coming weeks, marking another milestone in the redevelopment.
The council says the project remains under active management, with regular site inspections taking place as work continues.
As roofing progresses and internal spaces begin to take shape, the building is gradually moving towards becoming fully enclosed.
Once that stage is reached, the project will move into the next phase, which will focus on the internal fit-out of the theatre.
