Suspect device closes Littlehampton beach

A section of Littlehampton beach has been closed off this evening following the discovery of a suspicious device.

According to Arun District Council, the item was found beneath the coastguard tower.

As a precaution, the western end of the seafront has been cleared, including the closure of public toilets in the area.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

Arun District Council have released the following statement on socials: "Promenade at Littlehampton beach closed due to suspected bomb.

The promenade at Littlehampton beach has been closed temporarily at the Western end by the coastguard tower. This is due to a suspected bomb under the coastguard tower.

The beach has been cleared, and the public toilets are closed, as are the concessions.

Please stay away from the area."
