It's the big Easter getaway today for thousands of people across the South, and roadworks around a junction just outside Brighton are causing major delays.
Drainage and resurfacing work is being carried out on the A27 between the A23 and Hollingbury, the westbound outside lane will also be closed from tonight.
There's also reported congestion in and around Chichester - The A27 West of Chichester is currently blocked due to an incident on Fishbourne roundabout and the Birdham to Wittering road has been closed.
If you are heading out onto the open road to go on holiday, here are some top tips to make that journey a little bit easier:
-
Plan Ahead: Before setting off, check traffic updates and plan your route to avoid known congested areas, especially around major construction zones like the A27 near Brighton.
-
Travel Off-Peak: If possible, travel during off-peak times to dodge the worst of the traffic. Early morning or late evening can be less congested.
-
Prepare Your Vehicle: Ensure your car is road-trip ready. Check tire pressure, oil levels, and fuel. Pack an emergency kit with essentials like water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and tools.
-

Take Breaks: Long drives can be taxing. Schedule stops at rest areas to stretch, refresh, and reduce the risk of fatigue.
-
Stay Patient and Calm: Heavy traffic can lead to frustration. Keep your cool, listen to music or podcasts to stay relaxed, and remember that safety comes first.
-
Be Ready for Weather Changes: Spring weather can be unpredictable. Keep an umbrella and extra layers handy in case of sudden weather shifts.
If you are heading to the airport, there's some good news for people flying out of Gatwick, going through security should be easier, as liquids no longer need to be in see-through bags.
The airport has introduced 3D scanners in all 19 security lanes, which also means that electrical items can be left in cases while going through checks.
