Thousands of residents in East Grinstead remain without running water for a fourth consecutive day, as disruption to local supplies continues.
South East Water says the situation is now gradually improving, with reservoir levels increasing following days of intensive repair work. The company has confirmed that some customers are expected to see their water supplies restored later today, although others may not be reconnected until tomorrow.
Taps first ran dry on Saturday, causing widespread frustration among households, businesses and vulnerable residents affected by the prolonged outage. South East Water has issued a further apology, acknowledging the significant disruption caused and thanking customers for their patience.
The water company says the incident was triggered by a combination of severe weather linked to Storm Goretti and a power cut at one of its pumping stations, which severely affected the ability to move water through the network. Engineers have been working around the clock to stabilise the system and restore supplies safely.
During the outage, bottled water stations were set up across the area, with priority given to care homes, hospitals and residents with specific medical needs. Tankers have also been deployed to support areas most heavily impacted.
