Here at V2 Radio, excitement is building as people across the South prepare to follow a much-loved festive tradition – tracking Santa Claus as he makes his way around the globe delivering presents.
For decades, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, better known as NORAD, has been keeping a close eye on Santa’s journey, using radar systems, satellites and even fighter jets to monitor the progress of his sleigh. What began as a simple goodwill exercise has grown into a global event, followed by millions of families every year.
This year is no different. As Santa completes his deliveries across Europe, NORAD will be tracking his sleigh as it approaches and enters Southern England’s airspace. Here on the V2 Radio website, we’re helping to keep listeners across Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex up to date with his progress as the big moment approaches.
NORAD says Santa’s sleigh is equipped with a special magic-powered transponder, allowing it to be detected by their systems despite its extraordinary speed. The organisation also tracks each of Santa’s reindeer individually, providing fun facts and updates along the way.
Families can follow Santa’s journey in real time, watching as he hops from country to country, city to city, delivering gifts and spreading festive cheer. The live tracking includes interactive maps, videos and games designed to keep children entertained while they wait for his arrival.

As the countdown to Christmas Day continues, it’s a reminder that even as one year ends and another begins, a little bit of magic still has a way of bringing people together.
