Beach Patrol officers are returning to Arun’s coastline this week, helping ensure residents and visitors can enjoy the seaside safely as the warmer months approach.
The team will be back on duty from Wednesday, offering a visible presence along the beaches and promenades. Officers provide a wide range of support, including first aid, safety advice and assistance for families. Free child wristbands are also available to help quickly reunite children with parents or carers if they become separated.
Beach Patrol staff play a key role in enforcing Arun District Council’s seasonal byelaws, which come into force from 1 May through to 30 September. These rules are designed to protect both the public and the coastline, ensuring everyone can enjoy the area responsibly.
The team also assists with searching for missing people, handling lost property and, when required, working alongside emergency services in more serious incidents. In addition, officers help monitor local wildlife and provide daily updates on tide times, weather and sea conditions.
Residents are being reminded that removing shingle from the beach is a criminal offence. The material plays a vital role in coastal defence, helping to protect communities from erosion and flooding, as well as supporting the natural environment.
Arun District Council has thanked the Beach Patrol team for their continued work and dedication, wishing both residents and visitors a safe and enjoyable season along the coast.
