150-year-old Bognor hotel which locals feared would close permanently to reopen

Residents had feared the popular site would be converted into accommodation.

Residents delight as a popular Bognor Regis hotel will reopen next month after concerns that the venue would be lost to property developers.

The Carlton Hotel and Bar had been closed since Christmas until brothers Ben Standen and Harry Dumville stepped in to refurbish the property.

Locals had feared the site would be converted into accommodation, meaning another lost business along the seafront.

Ben expressed the importance of keeping businesses open in the area.

“The hotel has played a big part in the history of Bognor, and we didn’t want to see that slip away. We have seen the recent closure of The Regis on the seafront and it’s a trend that is concerning.”

The brothers aim to reopen the bar in July under the new name ‘The Promenade’, with the hotel to follow once renovations are completed.
