Football fans across Sussex and Hampshire can expect a quieter weekend of fixtures, as several of the region’s biggest clubs take a pause before returning to action in the build-up to the busy Christmas schedule.

In the Premier League, Brighton & Hove Albion are without a match this weekend. The Seagulls will be back on home turf next Saturday, when they host Brentford at the Amex. With a week’s recovery and preparation time, Roberto De Zerbi’s side will be aiming to reset and push on as the festive period approaches – traditionally one of the most demanding stretches of the season.

Portsmouth are also taking a breather. Pompey don’t have a match this weekend and will return to Fratton Park next Saturday for a home clash against Millwall. After a strong run of form in recent weeks, the break offers an opportunity to regroup and refocus ahead of a packed Christmas and New Year fixture list.

Southampton follow a similar pattern, with no match scheduled over the next couple of days. They’ll be back in action next Saturday with an away trip to Charlton Athletic. The Saints will be hoping the additional preparation time helps them continue climbing the table as they chase promotion ambitions.

But while the top-tier and Championship sides take a rest, several Sussex clubs further down the pyramid are in action today.

Crawley Town make the short journey to Kent as they take on Gillingham. With both teams pushing for momentum midway through the season, it promises to be a competitive fixture.

In the National League South, Worthing continue their strong campaign. Sitting third in the table, they travel to face Tonbridge Angels this afternoon. Worthing’s consistent performances have kept them in the promotion hunt, and they’ll be looking to maintain that pressure with another solid display away from home.

Bognor Regis Town are in action at Nyewood Lane, where they host Egham Town. Home support could prove crucial as the Rocks aim to climb the standings and turn recent positive performances into sustained results.

Chichester City are also on the road today, making an away trip to Dartford for a 3pm kick-off. The side will be hoping to build on recent form and take valuable points back home.

As for Selsey Football Club, the first team take a rest this weekend. They head into the break on a high after last week’s impressive 2-0 victory, a result that extends their unbeaten run to seven matches. The momentum remains strong, even if they’re not lining up today.

However, Selsey Reserves do feature in league action. They head to Stedham United for a 2pm kick-off, aiming to continue the club’s positive run across both squads.

With some teams resting and others battling for points, it’s a mixed weekend across the region – but plenty of footballing stories are still unfolding on pitches throughout Sussex and beyond.
