V2 Radio’s Christmas Toy Appeal has come to an end with a huge result for Children across the South.
The appeal has collected around 3,000 toys, worth an estimated £36,000, thanks to donations from V2 Radio listeners.
Organisations including the Chestnut Tree House in Worthing, Dingley's Promise in Southampton and Living Life in Eastbourne will distribute the gifts to the children they support, many of whom might otherwise have gone without this year.
Rebecca Newman-Smith from Ashton Care Group sponsored the V2 Radio Christmas Toy Appeal. She popped in to see Tanya McCarthy on her Brunch Hour. She said she was emotional when she saw just how many toys our listeners had donated: "For me, I can be an emotional person and that nearly made me cry, seeing how many toys were collected, just to see the power that people have to come together as a collective to make a huge difference in our community."
"Strangers coming together, not knowing who they are giving to, it could be someone they've never met, it could be the neighbour next door. They're changing lives, making such a difference to people when they need it most.
"I wish everyone could come and see the power of change they are making; it is moving."
Anna Stephenson Knight from the Charity Sussex Prisoners' Families said: "We've been, really, really blessed to be involved with the Toy Appeal for the last 5 years, the feedback we get from families is phenomenal, people are struggling especially at Christmas, and this really helps."
All the staff here at V2 Radio would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported this much-needed campaign, especially at a time when people are struggling with the cost of living. Your generosity has helped thousands of children across the South. Thank you.
Programme Controller Ian Crouch says: “V2 Radio's listeners have once again got behind our toy appeal to help those families in Sussex and Hampshire that are struggling. They have been truly amazing. This will really help to brighten so many children's Christmas days.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated - it really does make a massive difference”.
